  1. banter

Banter is the touching upon some fault, weakness, or fancied secret of another in a way half to pique and half to please; badinage is delicate, refined banter. Raillery has more sharpness, but is usually good-humored and well meant. Irony, the saying one thing that the reverse may be understood, may be either mild or bitter. All the other words have a hostile intent. Ridicule makes a person or thing the subject of contemptuous merriment; derision seeks to make the object derided seem utterly despicable — to laugh it to scorn. Chaff is the coarse witticism of the streets, perhaps merry, oftener malicious; jeering is loud, rude ridicule, as of a hostile crowd or mob. Mockery is more studied, and may include mimicry and personal violence, as well as scornful speech. A satire is a formal composition; a sarcasm may be an impromptu sentence. The satire shows up follies to keep people from them; the sarcasm hits them because they are foolish, without inquiring whether it will do good or harm; the satire is plainly uttered; the sarcasm is covert.

  1. John Key:

There's always lots of horsing around and sort of practical jokes and that's all there really was to it, ...I realized she had actually taken offence because it was all in the context of a bit of banter that was going on and so I obviously immediately apologized for that.

I appreciate the opposing defenses making it challenging physically and mentally every week. ... I also enjoyed the banter. I appreciate the referees for putting up with all my fussing. I think I was right most of the time dadgummit!

  3. Ash Barty:

I've played Ons before. Played doubles with her. She's a great person as well. I enjoy giving her a little bit of stick every single day when I see her. She gives it back, which I love. It's great banter, it's really nice to see her starting to play big matches, get herself deeper in tournaments. She has the ability, she has the brain on the tennis court... (she is) someone who brings a smile on my face whenever I see her.

  4. Kyle Walker:

Did I volunteer? I think it was a bit of both, i try and sometimes banter the keepers in training but I found you sometimes have to take two touches to make a save. We came here for a point or victory. To come away from here with a draw is a good point.

  5. Gavin Parry:

We're post 'Japan Inc' earnings now and the focus is back on China where local brokers are talking about market reforms, many of which will have a direct market impact,, there's also a continued focus on the U.S. Federal Reserve, with a lot of sell-side banter about quantifying what level of rate increases brokers are expecting. The shortened trading week should mean low volume with a very domestica focus, but the long-term outlook is still good for the Nikkei as long as the yen continues to weaken against the dollar.
