  1. insight

Sharpness, acuteness, and insight, however keen, and penetration, however deep, fall short of the meaning of acumen, which implies also ability to use these qualities to advantage. There are persons of keen insight and great penetration to whom these powers are practically useless. Acumen is sharpness to some purpose, and belongs to a mind that is comprehensive as well as keen. Cleverness is a practical aptitude for study or learning. Insight and discernment are applied oftenest to the judgment of character; penetration and perspicacity to other subjects of knowledge. Sagacity is an uncultured skill in using quick perceptions for a desired end, generally in practical affairs; acumen may increase with study, and applies to the most erudite matters. Shrewdness is keenness or sagacity, often with a somewhat evil bias, as ready to take advantage of duller intellects. Perspicacity is the power to see clearly through that which is difficult or involved. We speak of the acuteness of an observer or a reasoner, the insight and discernment of a student, a clergyman, or a merchant, the sagacity of a hound, the keenness of a debater, the shrewdness of a usurer, the penetration, perspicacity, and acumen of a philosopher.

How to use insight in a sentence?

  1. Chris Williamson:

A mixed report on the health of the U.S. labour market gives frustratingly little new insight into whether the Fed will start to hike rates, a bumper payrolls number would have sealed the case for higher interest rates in many people minds, while a low number would have dealt a blow to any chances of tightening of policy at the next meeting. Instead, we had something in the middle.

  2. David Silberklang:

That's all he had. to have someone who was old enough to remember clearly at the time and is still alive and well enough to tell us the whole story today, we are really in a sense in the last few years of having that possibility, where we can benefit from their memory and their insight.

  3. Tom Jones:

As I wrote in my newsletter, ‘It’s good insight into what it has been like for Psaki to be press secretary,’.

  4. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Peace and Violence, sct. 2, in Index, no. 4 (London, 1973.:

It is not because the truth is too difficult to see that we make mistakes. It may even lie on the surface; but we make mistakes because the easiest and most comfortable course for us is to seek insight where it accords with our emotions— especially selfish ones.

  5. Kris Jenner:

Kris Jenner shared. Reality % 20TV % 20Star % 0A KIM KARDASHIAN'S SEX TAPE WAS' DEVASTATING' SAYS MOM KRIS JENNER Of course not everyone is a fan of the Kardashian/Jenners, and the momager complimented her daughters for handling criticism well. They've got really thick skin, kim leads the pack. She's the queen of the thick skin. In June Kim was mommy-shamed for a picture of her son, Saint West, in a facing forward car seat, which could put a child at risk. But she got far more scrutiny during her traumatic 2016 robbery in Paris. Kris Jenner offered insight as to why they decided to share Kardashian-West’s Paris robbery on the long running reality series. So many people felt like they deserved the explanation of what happened because they had for the last decade followed every moment of her life and so then she felt like it would almost be a relief to be able to say it on her terms and explain what happened.
